The Sleepover Program was developed to allow potential adopters to help determine whether a particular animal is a good match for their household, lifestyle and family. Dogs and cats 6 months of age or older can be approved to participate in a sleepover for a maximum of four nights and five days. The short-term foster can be terminated at any time during the sleepover by a potential adopter for any reason, to re-enter the animal in our adoption program or to be adopted by you, the adopter. Dogs on sleepovers are not to interact with any animals outside of resident animals. In a small percentage of adoptable dogs, PHS/SPCA requires an $90 training fee.
This fee, collected at the time of adoption, enrolls your adopted dog in our training class. Our staff and volunteers make shelter visitors aware of the training fee early in the adoption process. We require training when it will greatly add to a dog's success in his or her new home. Our goal is not to make the process cumbersome, but to do what we know will ensure a lasting adoption.
